The Panama Team is on the ground in Dallas after a 3:15 delay in Houston. Prayers as we drive to Purcell and sleep fast, tonight!
Team Panama is in Houston for our connecting flight! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
This team was awesome this week in Panama. God was exalted, the International Church was encouraged, and the lost were engaged. Pray for us as we leave to head back to the United States 🇺🇸. We will leave the hotel at 6:00am and will should arrive at DFW by 6:00pm.
The Panama Team had a great day of ministry. At the orphanage this morning, some worked on a project to build a cement walk way for wheelchair access to a special swing designed for children with mobility issues. Others spent time playing with small children with social, mental and physical disabilities helping to foster the ability for the children to build personal relationships. There were some who just sat and held infants who don’t always get to experience the love and affection of other people. Mobility, friendship and love are all things we often take for granted. Today, the Panama Team improved those aspects of life for 17 special needs orphans. For lunch, we ate a typical Panamanian meal (see the picture below). After lunch we drove back to Panama City from Colon, freshened up, and the headed to Inglesia Bautista Redencion for ESL ministry (Heather Ringwald has a great story from tonight, so come Sunday night to hear it). Tomorrow is our free day. We will spend the day at a resort decompressing, debriefing, and preparing spiritually, emotionally, and physically to return to the United States. We will all feel like we left a part of us behind. God hasn’t just used us to change Panama, He has used Panama to change each of us!
The Panama Team has had breakfast and we are now headed to the special needs orphanage. We will be there until 2:00pm. Pray for our team. This ministry will be emotionally and spiritually taxing. Seeing children with extreme developmental disabilities can be distressing. Pray for those who operate the Heart’s Cry ministry. Their daily tasks are very difficult. Because of the nature of this ministry, only one person, Tim Swann Photography, will be allowed to take pictures and I, Pastor Wally Kelly, will have to approve the photos before they are posted online. So, we won’t have many pictures for tonight’s update. However, we will have plenty for Sunday night’s presentation. Tonight, we will be back on the other side of the country, in Panama City, at Inglésìa Bautista Redencion teaching ESL. Pray for fruitful Gospel conversations their as well.
This morning the team went to Heart’s Cry Ministries for training for the special needs orphanage. Then, we went to Calvary Baptist Church to work with “at risk children”. These are kids whose families have abandoned them. Many of them are homeless. Others have a place to sleep, but the people they live with don’t care for them or feed them. They are preschool age up to adolescents. Finally, we had about 2 hours to see the Panama Canal. We got to see a ship move through the canal and exit into the Pacific Ocean. Now we are on a bus, traveling to Colon, on the Caribbean Sea side of the country. Tonight we will have some time to rest, recuperate and prepare for another long day of ministry tomorrow. Be in prayer as we minister to children with autism, cerebral palsy and a variety of other physical and mental disabilities, tomorrow. We will also have another opportunity to teach ESL classes. Pray for hearts to be open to the Gospel!
Last night, the team went into the red light district of Panama City. We fed the homeless and engaged them and the cities prostitutes with the Gospel message. Several of our team members had an opportunity to witness. This morning we are going to training for the Special Needs orphanage and this afternoon we will travel to Colon where the orphanage is. We will have a little time this afternoon to catch up on rest since the last two days have been so busy.
The Panama Team got in late and we have an early morning, so look for an update as soon as we load the bus tomorrow. Good night EBC, and thank you for your prayers.
Tonight, the panama team is walking the streets of Panama City meeting the physical needs of the homeless by feeding them and bringing them coffee and then attempting to meet spiritual needs by sharing the message of Jesus with them. Please pray for safety and for gospel advancement.
This morning, our team went to Inglesia Bautista Redencion and taught ESL to people of all ages. During that time we were privileged to have several opportunities to have Gospel conversations. After a good lunch, we went to the University of Panama to work with the students in the English department teaching them conversational English. We had numerous Gospel conversations as the Lord opened doors and then Pastor Wally closed out our time with a game of “Telephone”. In the game, Pastor Wally interspersed Americans, Panamanians and people from numerous other countries in a line and started the game with a portion of John 14:6, “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.’” By the time the phrase made it around it was completely jumbled so he explained how important clear communication is, especially when dealing with eternity and through a translator insured everyone hears the Gospel, CLEARLY! After dinner, the team will be on the streets of Panama engaging homeless prostitutes and offering them salvation in Christ. Pray for safety and Gospel clarity tonight as we proclaim Jesus!
Good morning for beautiful Panama! 🇵🇦 Today will be a very long day for the team. We are heading out at 8:45am to teach ESL. Most of the ESL students are not believers. They want to learn conversational English, so they are willing to talk to Americans about anything we want to talk about. Our team just happens to want to talk about Jesus. Later in the day we will engage in an after school ministry with kids who actually can’t afford to go to school, so they have little to no education. We will finish our day working with a homeless ministry that focuses on helping get prostitutes off the streets. We won’t arrive back at our hotel until around 10:30 or 11:00 tonight. Pray for good, clear, Gospel-centered conversations today. Pray for wisdom, and safety as we travel and especially as we are on the streets of the city after dark tonight. Pray for strength and endurance as we recover for the hard work we did yesterday and still engage in a lot of walking and time in the sun and heat, today. Until the whole world hears, Pastor Wally
This afternoon our team had an AWESOME change of plans. Instead of touring the Panama Canal, we engaged in metro ministry. In just over an hour, we engaged in 24 Gospel conversations. We had numerous team member get out of their comfort zone to share the Gospel with a person they had never met before. We engaged multiple people groups, including at least one person from an indigenous jungle tribe that is believed to be considered unreached. Thank you for all of your prayers. I’ll update you tomorrow morning on how to pray for us tomorrow.
There was an audible called and instead of going to tour the Panama Canal, we have an opportunity to engage in Metro ministry. Our group is broken into 6 teams. Each team is going to a different location near on the Metro line to do evangelism. Pray that we God would show us those who need to hear the Gospel message. Also, pray that anyone we lead to Christ would get plugged in to one of the churches near the metro stations we’re serving at. Until the whole world hears, Pastor Wally
